Important things to note:

Laying cables in between and underneath bricks

Cables can fit in between and underneath LEGO® bricks, plates, and tiles providing they are laid correctly between the LEGO® studs. Do NOT forcefully join LEGO® together around cables; instead ensure they are laying comfortably in between each stud.

CAUTION: Forcing LEGO® to connect over a cable can result in damaging the cable and light.

Connecting cable connectors to Expansion Boards

Take extra care when inserting connectors to ports of Expansion Boards. Connectors can be inserted only one way. With the expansion board facing up, look for the soldered “=” symbol on the left side of the port. The connector side with the wires exposed should be facing toward the soldered “=” symbol as you insert into the port. If a plug won’t fit easily into a port connector, do not force it.

Incorrectly inserting the connector can can result in bent pins inside the port or possible overheating of the expansion board when connected.

Connecting cable connectors to Strip Lights

Take extra care when inserting connectors to ports on the Strip Lights. Connectors can be inserted only one way. With the Strip Light facing up, ensure the side of the connector with the wires exposed is facing down. If a plug won’t fit easily into a port connector, don’t force it. Doing so will damage the plug and the connector.

Installing Bit Lights under LEGO® bricks and plates.

When installing Bit Lights under LEGO® pieces, ensure they are placed the correct way up (Yellow LED component exposed). You can either place them directly on top of LEGO® studs or in between.

OK, Let’s Begin!

Instructions for installing this kit

1.) We will first install lights to the temple. Start by disconnecting all the surrounding sections then turn the temple around and follow the below images to remove the top 2 levels. First disconnect the top level, followed by the second and first floor sections together.

Remove one of the pillar sections in the top corner then remove the front brick of the base of the fountain at the front of the temple.

2.) Take a Blue 30cm Bit Light and then stick it to the LEGO brick we removed earlier using an adhesive square. Ensure the cable is facing down as per below

Reconnect the brown LEGO brick and then secure the cable in place by disconnecting the other brown LEGO brick opposite, laying the cable and then reconnecting back over the cable. Ensure the cable underneath is laid in between studs.

Reconnect LEGO pieces we removed earlier.

3.) Take the Multi-Effects Board and then connect the Blue Bit Light cable into one of the output ports (side with 2 ports).

To configure the effect, we are going to require power so take the AA Battery pack and insert 3x AA batteries to it. Connect the Battery Pack cable into the input port (side with 1 port) and turn on. Set the switch all to the far left for the “flicker” effect (to give the water fountain a realistic flickering water look) and then turn the wheel to adjust the speed of the effect.

Once you are happy with the speed of the effect, disconnect the battery pack and then proceed to the next step.

4.) Take a 5cm Connecting Cable and then connect it to the output port of the multi-effects board. Connect the other side of the cable to a 6-Port Expansion board.

Take 2x 50cm Connecting Cables and a 15cm Connecting Cable and connect it to available ports on the expansion board.

Take the AA Battery Pack and then connect it to another spare port on the expansion board. Lay the Battery pack down on the bottom of this section as this will be where the battery pack will be permanently set.

Thread one of the 50cm cables out the left side through the spacing in the corner of the building. Pull the cable all the way out from the outside.

Thread the other 50cm cable as well as the 15cm cable out the right side of the building as per below.

5.) Take the first and second level sections of the Temple and reconnect them over the base, then remove the middle section’s floor as per below.

Use the LEGO Removal Tool to disconnect the second level by following the below images.

6.) We will now light up the four red lanterns. Turn the building around and then start with the lantern on the far left. Take a White 15cm Bit Light and then bend the cable down in a 90 degree angle (with the bit light facing out)

With the Bit Light facing the front, place the Bit Light down into the lantern piece ensuring the cable is behind the lantern piece.

Secure the Bit Light in place by threading the cable in towards the building and laying underneath the brown 1×3 plate.

Repeat this step to install another 3x White 15cm Bit Lights to the other 3 lanterns. For the middle two lanterns, use the brown ‘L’ shaped plates to secure the cable in place.

If you find the Bit Lights are easily slipping out of the lanterns, you can secure by using the provided red round plates.

Take the 4x Round Plates 1×1 Red and connect them over the top of each lantern piece to secure the Bit Lights in place and prevent them from slipping out.

7.) Turn the building around to the back and then take an 8-Port Expansion Board and then connect all 4 Bit Light cables into the first few ports toward the left.

Turn on the Battery Pack to test all the lights are working OK.

8.) Take a White Strip Light and then using the adhesive backing, stick it onto the base of a provided LEGO 1×6 Plate.

Connect a 5cm Connecting Cable to the left port and a 15cm Connecting Cable to the right port.

9.) Take the second level of the temple and reconnect if over the bottom level.

Reconnect the floor section we removed earlier.

10.) Take the other end of the 5cm cable we connected earlier to the White Strip Light and connect it to the 8-port expansion board.

Take the other end of the 15cm cable (from the right side of the base)and connect this to another port on the 8-port expansion board.

Using 2x Adhesive Squares, mount the 8-port expansion board as well as the the White Strip Light on to the ceiling of the bottom floor as per below:

You can also use tape to secure cables to the ceiling and prevent them from dangling down.

Turn on the battery pack and verify all is working OK.

12) Take another White Strip Light and stick it on to the base of another LEGO 1×6 Plate. Connect a 30cm connecting cable to the left port and then connect the other end of the 15cm cable from the strip light below into the right port.

Mount the Strip Light to the ceiling of the middle level at the following position. Ensure the connected 30cm cable is facing the inside of the temple.

13.) Take the top level and then reconnect over the second level.

Secure the cable between the ground and second floor in between the flower piece as per below.

14.) Take another White Strip Light and stick it onto the base of a LEGO 1×6 Plate. Connect the 30cm cable from below to the left port.

Eliminate excess cable by winding the cable around the Strip Light 4–5 times before mounting it to the ceiling of the top floor in the below position.

Turn on the Battery Pack to verify all is working OK.

This completes installation of lights for the Temple.

15.) We will now light up the market lanterns which is to the right of the building. Take this market section and then remove the two gold blades which the lanterns are connected to.

Disconnect the bottom white round plates as per below

Take a White 15cm Bit Light and place it directly over the stud of one of the white round plates we disconnected. Secure the Bit Light in place by reconnecting this bottom round plate back to the rest of the lantern ensuring the cable is facing behind.

Repeat this step to install another White 15cm Bit Light to the lantern on the other side.

Reconnect both sections back to the front of the building.

16.) Take the cable from the right lantern and then pull the cable up to bend the cable upward. Lift up the right set of roof tiles and then thread the cable through the space which leads to the left side. Pull the cable out from the left side and then cover the roof back.

Take the left lantern cable and pull it upward. Thread the cable around the brown plate and then loop it back around itself to securely tie the cable.

Take a 6-port Expansion Board and connect both bit light cables to available ports.

17.) Take a White Strip Light and stick it to the base of another LEGO 1×6 plate. Connect a 5cm connecting cable to the left port of the strip light and then connect the other side of the cable to the expansion board.

Thread the strip light through the space inside of the roof and then mount it underneath to the following position.

Mount the expansion board to the inside of the roof using 2x adhesive squares.

18.) Locate one of the 50cm connecting cables from the bottom of the temple and then thread it through the back of the roof of the market.

Pull the cable through and then connect it to a spare port on the 6-port expansion board.

Reconnect both sides of the roof tiles and then reconnect the market base plate to the temple base plate.

Turn the battery pack on to test all the lights are working OK.

19.) We will now light up the cottage on the left of the Temple. Take this section, turn it to the back and remove the second floor.

Remove the two grey plates from the front of the cottage and then place it aside.

20.) Take a White 15cm Bit Light and stick it underneath these 2 plates using an adhesive square. Ensure you stick it in exactly the same position as per below and that the cable is facing toward the back.

With the cable facing behind, carefully reconnect the two plates to the front of the cottage.

The Bit Light should be visible if you look up from underneath.

21.) Take a White Strip Light and stick it to the base of a provided LEGO 1×6 Plate. Connect the Bit Light cable from the front of the cottage to the left port on the strip light. Set this aside for now.

22.) Take another White Strip Light and stick it to the base of another provided LEGO 1×6 plate. Take a 15cm connecting cable and connect it to the left port on the strip light.

Take the second floor of the cottage, turn it to the back and then lift up the left side of the roof.

With the cable facing behind, mount the strip light to the following position on the left side of the roof and then close the roof.

23.) Lift the second floor of the cottage over the base and then lift it up and mount the Strip Light from below underneath in the following position. To eliminate excess cable from the Bit Light, loop it around and secure it in between studs of the 1×6 Plate.

Take the 15cm connecting cable from the second floor and connect this to the right port on the strip light underneath.

You can secure the 15cm cable on the second floor by taping it to the wall.

24.) Locate the other end of the spare 50cm connecting cable from the base of the Temple and connect it to the port on the strip light on the second floor.

Turn the cottage around to the front and then connect the base plate of the cottage to the base plate of the Temple.

This finally completes installation of the Temple of Airjitsu Lighting Kit. Your LEGO set is now ready to come to life.

Turn the battery pack on, and ENJOY!
